Discovering the Problem

Childcare

Our hackathon team, four strangers before the event, focused on early childhood development. In particular we wanted to provide a solution to enhance the role of caregivers.

We conducted user interviews, competitor analysis, and market research to identify user needs and problems.

Insights

  • Discovered parents, especially first time parents, experience stress when leaving their child in someone else’s care. Also, they feel guilty because they may miss milestones in their children’s growth.
  • Parents want to make sure their children are cared for and developing.

Defining our strategy and solution

We decided to focus on a solution for parents and caregivers to collaborate on a child’s care and development.

Ideas:

  • It takes a village - enable multiple caregivers to collaborate on a child's care.
  • Feed with notes, photos, and videos so parent can easily check on their child.
  • Child's profile with important information such as allergies and medicine.
  • Child's development plan.

Low fidelity prototyping

We tested our prototype with potential users and get feedback.

  • We received positive feedback on child's profile because it allows them to share important info with caregiver.
  • Parents wanted to see their child's meal and nap schedule.
  • Parents wanted to receive notifications in case of emergencies.
